There is a better way of applying blue paint

Den's been working on his jazz look this last week and still ain't so sure...but he is committed to looking like a hawaiian head shrinking freak 3 weeks on sat so he must endure. Oh, that and painting the crapper a nice shade of Hawaiian blue.

Den casts his mind back to Summer '98 and an anonymous warehouse in Cologne. I didn't know what to expect from this bunch but I was pleasantly surprised (well you would be wouldn't you given the circs!). This is from the little known "Kicking the clouds away" LP tribute to George Gershwin. They look pretty naff but forgive them...it was 1998!

The Mobylettes- The man I love

Shits and giggles time from (Bull)Moose Jackson and his "Big ten inch". I'm guessing they were rioting back in '52 when this one hit the mid- west...

As you'll know Den is a Twin Peaks freak so he flipped his wig when he found this one...oh the fun- Coop you're a hoot! And while you're at it search youtube for "Twin Peaks Lego"...oh the fun!!

Now Den's head was turned when his peepers caught sight of this '60's inspired tomato. Now Den's bag is all over the place but it's rare to see an act with a 60's influence anyway and even rarer when its not naff bollocks. Check out the film real on her sight- Den particularly digs the fact that this gal can splash some paint around- blue as well...the same colour as Den's recently repainted smallest room...

The big sound of the century

Den brings you a mixed-bag this week with some doo-wop, girl group & blue-eyed soul; alongside more Twin Peaks & the fantastic Trixie Little & The Evil Hate Monkey…So tune in your ear-trumpets and give your peepers a treat with Den…

Den seems to remember hearing this on a film soundtrack a few years ago, it could have been “After Hours”…Anyway, this brings thoughts of sitting at a bar stool nursing some giggle water after been bumped off with some wooden nickels by some bear cat. A copasetic, grand, soaring doo-wop tune that blows away any blues that may linger. This one does it for Den every time. What more can you say when the label declares "The Big Sound Of The Century". Take it away, Leon...

The Blue Jays- Lover's Island

Den has only just tuned his ear trumpet into this late sixties girl group side from 1969. It’s a sweet, organ-led tune with a fine back beat from the skin-beater. It has a fine cover as well with The Goodees chomping down on over-sized lollipops. Den needs to get his deerstalker and pipe out and try to track this slab of premium vinyl down… Warning though cats & kittens the lyrics may be smuttier than first thought after one or two listens! If Den was forced at gun point to pick his favourite "Goodee" he'd go with the second one (hidden inside the 'O'), although, she is about the only one who you can fully see her coupon...

The Goodees- Double shot of my baby's love

In the world of Den you can never have too much Tom Jones. The album “Along Came Jones” has been sat snuggly on the shelf for a good few years without too many plays and Den was drawn to this expecting a pumped-up soul version of the Merseybeat staple but instead found this Gordon Mills penned beat-ballad monster after seeing Tom on Jonathan Ross the other week. Raid those charity shops while you can to get your biscuit-snatchers on any Tom vinyl you can find (I’d say 1971 is a good cut off point for the end of the classic era). You can always rely on a good cover from Tom and this is no exception with TJ sporting a fine red shirt...

Tom Jones- Some other guy

Den has just reached the end of his Twin Peaks marathon (“Fire walk with me” withstanding) and feels a little emotional that the ride is over! He had to post a video and was spoilt for choice but plumped for the black lodge. Den goes crazy for the flooring in there…very nice! I bet you can’t get that in B & Q. Whilst you’ve got the trolley check out this blog

The Black Lodge

And finally a male-female duo for the first time in Den’s world- Trixie Little & The Evil Hate Monkey. Den is oozing with praise for these two from Trixie’s barnet to the monkey’s crazy Prince Charles-like ears. This is a fantastic twist on the standard fan-dance and the second clip is sheer genius. It boils your ham bone so to speak…Anyway, load up your rockets with glue, until the next-time I’ll be seeing you!

Bomb in the den!

Hello and welcome to Den's first broadcast. Den's got three tracks about the fairer sex, a great Twin Peaks Promo and the hootchie-kootchie queen Bernie Dexter...keep tuned in for regular posts and updates from Den's Den.

A bad attitude rock n roll tune featured on the LP “Nasty Rockabilly” Vol.5 which features a cover far too rude even for Den! This stormer features the unforgettable line…“If I had me a woman who was big and fat, I’d look her up and down like an alley cat”. This douche-bag later howls “If I had me a woman who was tall and thin, I wouldn’t care what state she was in”, the oddly named Blacky Vale or Mr. McVale to you clearly ain’t picky who he rolls in the hay with and for two minutes one second he don’t give a monkey’s who knows!

Meanwhile whilst Billy J. Kramer escapes the clutches of Brian Epstein’s amore by the latter’s buying the farm in June ’67 he cuts this great ode to “the greatest Oriental”. This one is buried on the b-side of the God-awful, stinking Bee Gees penned track “Town of Tuxley toymaker” (you know it’s gonna be some terrible “Cups and cakes” British ‘psychedelia’ with a title like that!). This is by far BJK’s best slice of vinyl and one of the best late 60’s Mersey-beat survivor records...I don’t have this German picture sleeve but I thought I’d paste it in due to Billy’s terrible barnet! My UK copy is on the right….

I know absolutely zip about this one other than they are from the South Coast. A fantastic harmonica lead track that makes The Stones sound like a bunch of lily-livered sissies! It starts like “Some other guy” and is all over in less than 2 minutes. Not surprising when the sneering sleaze of a singer tells the women in question “that all you’ve got is a pretty face”. If that’s the case then just under 2 minutes of my time sounds about right…

The Beat Merchants- Pretty Face

And now some hootchin' & kootchin' from downtown San Diego...Despite the fact that Bernie floats Den’s boat, avert your eyes and tune in your cab doors…This is “Once More” by Bill Forbes…I have searched the highways and byways of this land for this mythical beast…I would sell one of my kidneys to get my hands on this and the other to get my hands on Bernie! Ho-ho!

Bernie Dexter- Once More dance

And so to the end...Den's been settling in to watching Season 2 of "Twin Peaks" and it's been frying his wig...here's more laughs with Coop in a "Wizard of Oz" skit!
